More AI support for Kiwi small businesses
The Government has extended practical AI support for small businesses. Its September announcement offers a useful starting point for owners who need help choosing a project and planning the work.

More places and more time
The 22 September announcement adds support for another 120 small businesses and extends the AI Advisory Pilot until 30 June 2027. The Government says around 150 businesses had joined since its January launch.
A roadmap with implementation support
Delivered through the Regional Business Partner Network, the pilot co-funds tailored AI roadmaps and implementation up to $15,000. The release also reports approximately 650 businesses received co-funding for AI-related courses during July 2025–June 2026. Eligibility and available places require confirmation with the network.
Our view: choose one job worth improving
For a smaller team, the first useful conversation is about the work that keeps coming back. A trade business might repeatedly copy enquiry details into a job system, while a professional practice might spend time collecting missing information before booking an appointment. Write down where a request begins, who handles it, which details matter and what counts as finished. That gives an adviser something concrete to assess and gives the owner a way to compare possible solutions.
Agree how a pilot will be judged
Before commissioning a build, record the current time spent, the number of corrections and the exceptions that need a person. Agree who reviews the trial and who can stop it if information is missing or the handover fails. Funding can help with a project, but the business still needs a workable operating plan. Contact the local Regional Business Partner about current terms, and ask a prospective supplier to explain implementation costs, access, handover and ongoing support clearly.
